Workshops

Workshops are opportunities to increase different coping skills and wellness habits aimed towards improving your mental health and wellbeing. You can learn practical tools to effectively manage concerns related to depression, anxiety, difficult emotions, relationships and more. University Health Services offers virtual and in-person workshops that will be facilitated by staff over the span of one to two weeks with opportunities for participants to ask questions and engage with the workshop materials.

University Health Services provide services for all Texas A&M University students. If you do not see a workshop that fits your needs, please reach out to uhsinfo@tamu.edu so we can provide you services that meet your needs.

Single Session Workshops

This workshop is designed to help students struggling with productivity or questioning their ability to succeed. Students will learn to recognize the impact of the imposter phenomenon on their well-being and learn strategies to manage and succeed through feelings of imposterism.

Learn how to match interests with academic majors and occupations. Registration and completion of the interest inventory are needed 3 business days prior to the workshop.

Career Assessment: Strong Interest Inventory

  • Sept. 8 & 22; Oct. 6 & 27; Nov. 10 & 17

Learn how to incorporate your personality into career planning. Registration and completion of the personality measure are needed 3 business days prior to the workshop.

This workshop will give participants a chance to discuss and begin processing the loss, gain insight on relational values and receive tools to continue the grieving process.

This workshop is designed to help participants begin to understand the concept of worthiness. We will explore this by looking at the areas of self-esteem, self-compassion and perfectionism.

2-Session Workshop Series

The goal of this workshop is to provide you with life-long tools you can use while facing anxiety-triggering situations.

  • Tuesdays, 3-4 p.m. (Zoom)
  • Thursdays, 1:15-2:15 p.m. (in person)

This workshop will provide you with life-long skills and tools to recognize and manage depressive symptoms you may be experiencing.

  • Thursdays, 3-4 p.m. (Zoom)

Gain clarity on the differences between assertive and aggressive communication methods. Before leaving the workshop, participants will be educated on learning to set boundaries and given tools to help them maintain those boundaries.

Bring your lunch and learn about how to take control of your mental health. We will view a video by Dr. Tracey Marks, a psychiatrist who focuses on the brain-body connection and how to improve overall well-being, and then have a Q&A time.

The goal of this workshop is to provide you with life-long tools you can use while facing anxiety-triggering situations.

Students will learn about impostor experiences and their impact on student well-being. Students will learn strategies to cope with impostor feelings and reframe impostor thinking.

  • Sept. 26, 1-2 p.m., Zoom

Students will learn common characteristics of both healthy and unhealthy relationships. Students will learn common communication styles and will learn to identify their own frequently used communication styles. 

  • Nov. 7, 1-2 p.m., Zoom

Students will learn the myths and consequences perfectionistic thinking. Students will learn strategies to challenge perfectionistic thinking and will learn how to set healthy & realistic goals. 

  • Oct. 17, 1-2 p.m., Zoom

This workshop will help students learn strategies to actively manage their everyday stress and learn ways in which they can balance their academic and personal goals. Active wear encouraged.

College of Engineering Workshops

This workshop is designed for students struggling to cope with painful or rapidly changing emotions. Students will learn to manage their emotions using 4 steps. 1. Recognize 2. Accept 3. Be With 4. Coping.

Students will learn the benefits and costs of two different mindsets, Fixed mindsets and Growth mindsets. Students will be encouraged to self-reflect on their current mindset and begin to construct a Growth mindset. Growth mindsets “can foster learning and nurture the resilience that is the basis of accomplishment in every area.” (Dr. Carol Dweck, Mindset)

Students will learn the importance of setting healthy boundaries and how unhealthy boundaries can affect well-being. Students will have the opportunity to anonymously submit real-life situations to discuss during the workshop. These examples will be used to practice setting and communicating healthy boundaries.

This workshop is designed to provide international students tips on how to adapt and adjust to the new environment and culture.

This workshop will help you develop a successful study strategy for exams, including how to make the most of your time, how to manage stress, study effectively and take care of yourself during the semester. Handouts are provided.

McAllen Workshops

The goal of this workshop is to provide you with life-long tools you can use while facing anxiety-triggering situations.
