University Health Services offers a variety of student employment opportunities, from student worker to graduate assistant positions.

Student Clinic Assistant Employment Program

Specific to the A.P. Beutel Student Health Center, the Student Clinic Assistant Employment Program allows student employees to greatly impact patient experience. These student employees are integral to successful operations at University Health Services. Members of this student employee program are high performing Aggies who embody the Aggie core values and actively contribute to patient care. From making a positive first impression in the front lobby, to assisting clinical staff and ancillary units in direct patient care, every student employee plays a critical role in enhancing the patient experience.

Student Clinic Assistant Employment Program student employees can expect to gain competence in their work area and learn about:

Clinic assistant student employees are trained for all areas within the University Health Services student health center. General duties may include:

  • Registration & Front Desk: Greet patients, schedule appointments, collect & verify patient information and health insurance information
  • Cashier & Check Out: Collect and post patient payments, set charges to insurance, reconcile daily transactions
  • Preventive Medicine: Schedule appointments for vaccines, travel consults, and allergy injections. Check in / check out patients and support clinical staff.
  • Clinical Areas front desks: Greet patients in clinical areas, answer and direct phone calls, assist clinical staff

Detailed unit-specific responsibilities can be found below.

  • Daily Cashier Reconciliation
  • Purchasing and Receiving, including deliveries to departments within the student health center
  • Process payments
  • Prepare invoices for payment
  • Sort and allocate daily mail
  • Monitor inventory and office supply stock in the Business Office
  • Serve as backup to the Business Office staff for processing insurance claim denials and payments
  • Assist with other general Business Office duties

  • Able to perform phlebotomy
  • Collect and process samples, including operation of centrifuges
  • Perform clerical duties utilizing Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and Point and Click EMR system
  • Greet and assist patients upon arrival
  • Educate patients on collection of samples
  • Fax results as appropriate
  • Perform maintenance on equipment
  • Have good phone etiquette
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Obtain patient vital signs, height, and weight; obtain patient history and document in the electronic medical record; stock exam rooms
  • Common procedures include: EKG, ear irrigation, orthopedic supply fitting (crutches, braces, slings) and instruction, set up and assisting with minor procedures
  • Schedule appointments
  • Provide general information / customer service
  • Answer and direct phone calls
  • Provide health insurance information
  • Clerical duties utilizing excel and Point and Click programs for patient care
  • Clerical duties to include copying, fax, doctor letters, etc.
  • Phone use to include message and transfer responsibilities
  • Input appropriate information into study spreadsheets
  • Assist PT with patient care when needed
  • Overall cleanliness of clinic to include hydrocollator, paraffin bath, etc.
  • Proper care and operation of equipment
  • Supplying and changing linens when needed
  • Create and update patient flowsheets
  • Assist physical therapy with delegated tasks
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
